Several computer tools for supporting software inspections exist. Most of them are prototypes that demonstrate particular aspects of the inspection process automation and are not mature enough for utilization. This paper discusses if off-the shelf products can be used effectively for inspection collaboration in distributed software development. During the experiment three teams carried out distributed inspections. Collaboration between team members was done with Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and standard e-mail. The Acrobat software provides very convenient on-line commenting and material distribution capabilities, but lacks characteristics for efficient management of the inspection process, such as defect categorization. Thus, there is still a need for tools that are specialized in software inspections.
