Traffic Model of Data Transmission on Hybrid Fiber Coax Network

Abstract

The traffic model is a fundamental element in the develop ment of the performance model for any telecommunication system. This paper describes the traffic model built to be used in a performance model which represents a data trans mission network, based on a hybrid fiber coax (HFC) net work using ATM technology. This traffic model has been obtained from an analysis of the measurements of network traffic using simple methods, and with no distinction be tween types of traffics. The parameters of the traffic model are directly related to the network configuration values, to aid in encapsulating the traffic model as a simulation ob ject to be incorporated into the whole HFC network perfor mance model.
