Fault detection, power systems, unknown input observers.
In this paper we introduce a new approach to fault detection and isolation in power systems based on the principles of estimation. The faults are modeled as unknown inputs and then estimated systematically through the use of unknown input observer theory. The approach is applied to a power system comprising a synchronous generator, an exciter and a network of lines and loads.
