Abstract

In this paper we present a new distortionless method for reducing the dynamic range of the envelope of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals. The basic idea is to decompose the transmitted signal into two orthogonal components: a data-based signal and a compensation term, especially designed to reduce the dy namic range of the envelope. With this method, we can reduce the dynamic range of the envelope of OFDM sig nals to values similar to those of single-carrier OQPSK modulations (Orthogonal Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), almost independently of the number of subcarriers. Our performance results show that the proposed multicarrier signals are compatible with a low-complexity, power-efficient grossly nonlinear power amplification.
