We present a service provisioning algorithm geared towards revenue maximization for DWDM networks. Our algorithm uses information regarding projected traffic demands between different network endpoints. This information is distilled into two metrics that we have developed to capture the revenue impact of candidate paths: opportunity cost and resource utilization penalty. We demonstrate that our algorithm, which works by selecting paths with desirable values for the abovementioned metrics, when applied to a realistic optical network, results in significant improvements in revenue (up to 70 %) over existing techniques.
