StorageTek develops storage solutions that include servers, controllers, and network components in addition to tape and disk drives. The data is manipulated, metadata is developed, and the view of the system that the host uses is mapped into a virtual system. In order to support these complex design criteria and create products that have no severe performance and reliability constraints, we require a general purpose modeling environment with a number of capabilities. This paper describes the unique capabilities required of a simulation tool for modeling storage solutions.
