Numerical and Experimental Analysis of Asymmetric Plane Parallel Jets

Abstract

The flow field of asymmetric plane parallel jets was inves tigated experimentally using a Schlieren technique, and numerically by solving the Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes equations. The experimental and numerical results showed excellent agreement in the merge point location. The results also show that as the jet width ratio, , decreases from unity, the location of the merge point moves toward the large, higher momentum flux jet in the transverse direction, and downstream in the streamwise direction. Additional experimental results for parallel arrays of round jets revealed that, relative to the planar jet cases, the merge point occurred further downstream.
