: 3-D source localization, epileptic focus, interictal spike, Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), EEG analysis, MRI lesion
This study introduces an integrated approach to the 3-D localization of brain activity related to epileptic seizures by merging electroencephalographs (EEG) and magnetic resonance imagery (MRI) data. Several patients (11) are used in this study to determine the merit of such 3-D localization mechanisms in relation to actual epileptic foci, knowing that our results will eventually be used in the decision making process when surgical interventions are deemed necessary. This critical task includes consolidating 3-D head models and 3-D localization mechanisms with actual brain events. The results obtained and the errors experienced are provided as an assessment to this integrated approach which exploits, as an integral part of the process, the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) method in the analysis of EEG data, and the use of the intricate 3-D software program named CURRY (a multimodal neuro-imaging software). MRI data with pinpointed lesions and doctors assessments are used as means to augment the decision making process.
