Single-bit error correction techniques are not sufficient for handling errors in Wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode Networks (WATM) due to the burstiness nature of errors in such networks. Consequently, researchers have been redesigning the Data Link layer. This paper introduces a Single Packet Error Control (SPEC) scheme that is capable of correcting errors within a single packet. The packet in this case is assumed to be part of a multi-packet message. Such scheme will be useful in deeply faded wireless channels.
