Abstract

Wind energy, fed to the electrical grid to save resources and reduce emissions, needs control power for balancing fluctuations; this causes fuel losses in thermal power sta tions and limits the degree of energy substitution. Present plans for huge off-shore generation in Europe will intensify the problems. As a long term solution chemical energy storage could be desirable for decoupling supply and demand, also producing sustainable secondary fuel for stationary and mobile fuel cells.
