Abstract

The chronology of technology has made the bulkiness of its process- ing components to decrease substantially; hence, the need of the hour is to make the less fixated input devices more direct and gesture based. The ultimate objective of computer technology is to make computers more human-like, especially when it comes to interaction with users. In this paper, a novel technique of gesture control is introduced where the hand movements and pattern recognition are done using inertial measuring units (IMUs) and a serial Bluetooth module to provide a simple, compact and a cost-effective device to control a mouse cursor and making it function as a low power Bluetooth human interface device. The IMU is mounted upon the hand track patterns and gestures and then delivers the information to the customized single layer printed circuit board (PCB) which has surface mounted device and microcontroller, after processing the information is sent wirelessly via a serial Bluetooth module. It has to bridge the gap between hand and eye coordination for the movement of different input devices of the computer, to using actual human limbs’ movement as an input method. The pilot system works effectively as a “Plug and Play device and proves that the system is viable.
