Abstract

This paper deals with the design of a sliding mode observer based sliding mode control law for a multivariable continuous stirred tank reactor. Two types of nonlinear observers are proposed to estimate the whole process state variables. The first observer type is a high-gain observer, whereas the second one uses a sliding mode approach. Both observers are coupled with a nonlinear controller, designed based on a sliding mode controller (SMC). The control objective is to perform accurate tracking of the temperature and concentration in the reactor. The asymptotical stability of the closed-loop system is shown by the Lyapunov stability theorem. Computer simulations are developed for showing the performance of the proposed approach.
