Inter-area oscillation, controlled islanding scheme (CIS), splitting critical moment, intelligent support vector machine (ISVM), WAMS
This paper presents an intelligent controlled islanding scheme to avoid large blackouts in power systems based on inter-area controlling signals gathered from wide area measurement system (WAMS) data. The goal of this study is concentrated within main issues of controlled islanding scheme including Step 1 – splitting boundaries, Step 2 – splitting critical moments and Step 3 – emergency actions after system separation. For this issue, according to coherency, an online non-model-based technique is presented from which using an intelligent technique, proper decisions are estimated in the real-time working mode. For specifying islanding boundaries, based on the concept of centre of inertia (COI), an intelligent support vector machine (ISVM) technique is implemented from which candidate lines are estimated. The proposed intelligent strategy is carried out on the modified IEEE 39-bus test system with the potential of unstable inter-area oscillations. Simulation evaluations indicate the promising results of the proposed strategy in the case of evaluating splitting critical moments and boundaries to avoid large blackouts in the power system.
