Abstract

A linear form of switched reluctance motor (LSRM) is explored and substantiated as a promising alternative for the direct operative linear system to be used in electric vehicular applications. In this paper, the design and electromagnetic analysis of linear-SRM, particularly for long-distance transit application, have been presented. Highlights of motor performance affected by their geometrical parameters are also portrayed using finite element analysis (FEA). The elementary foundation of LSRM in traction application along with its topological control for driving the motor is also included in this paper. The adaptability of the proposed linear SRM on the existing system has been identified and presented in this paper. At last, the exploration status on this subject is summarized and the possible solutions for commercial enhancements are described.
