Abstract

Some researchers have published that, under different unbalanced voltages, variations in the torque and efficiency of a three-phase induction motor are rather large except in the case of specifying the positive sequence component of the voltage in addition to the unbalanced percentage. However, the simultaneous use of the voltage unbalance factor and the sequence component makes the process for analysing the conformity indicators unnecessarily complex. In this study, an alternative method for evaluating the performance of a motor subjected to unbalanced voltages based solely on employing the arithmetic mean of the voltage magnitudes is proposed and tested using data from measurements and simulations. Despite a reduction in the volume of calculations and simplicity, use of this method culminates in acceptable levels of in computational errors. In all of the analyses presented, the experimental results verify the theoretical analysis.
