Photovoltaic generation, reliability, alternative energy, power electronics
Because of nature’s exhaustiveness of conventional fossil fuel resources and vast scope of solar energy as alternative energy, the solar photovoltaic (PV) generation is getting more attention for reliable power generation. In this paper the generalized reliability model of solar PV generation system is presented based on physical characteristics. The PV generation for isolated stand-alone system which can be connected to domestic load is considered. The overall generation system includes solar panel, DC–DC converter, battery and inverter. The reliability of each of these components is calculated and varying effects on reliability with respect to different parameters like environment factor, stress factor and component rating is investigated. The results contained in the paper can be used for design of reliable PV generation of suitable component ratings.
