Abstract

With the increasing usage of renewable energy resources and energy storage devices, more and more converter-based distributed energy resources (DERs) are connected to the microgrids in addition to the conventional AC connected distributed generators such as the diesel engine generators. This brings new challenges to the system. This paper presents an overview of our research work on the integration of the DERs. Three aspects are discussed: (1) interaction between the inverter-interfaced DERs and the conventional AC connected DERs and its impacts on the stability of the microgrids during the islanding operation; (2) negative sequence compensation for unbalance in the DERs interfacing inverters; and (3) the impact of maximum power point tracking in wind generator on system stability.
