Abstract

This paper investigates experimentally the identification and the control of a semi-batch chemical reactor based on multiple model and multiple control approaches. This non-linear and time-dependent process is described by three simple and linear local models repre- senting each one a specific operating zone. The developed multiple model and multiple control techniques were experimentally imple- mented and evaluated on the real process. The control objective is to keep the reactor temperature within safe operating specifications by manipulating the electrical heating power. Experimental results demonstrate that these multiple model and multiple control strate- gies work well in the presence of huge time delay and disturbances. A good tracking, a relatively low control signal variance and a good rejection of disturbance were recorded.
