Abstract

This paper presents a reliability modelling strategy of a single-unit PLC’s controlled system and its application to industries. Because many industries are operated and controlled by programmable logic controllers, the authors suggest a modelling strategy inspired by reliability analysis and using the data from a biscuit manufacturing factory controlled by a single-unit PLC system under various failure and repair situations. Further, the paper outlines the mathematical technique using semi-Markov and regenerative processes for extracting various reliability indices. Profit incurred to the system is obtained. A particular case using the proposed model is examined graphically.
