Abstract

Direct torque control (DTC) is employed where fast torque and flux control are required in high-performance induction motor drives. In this paper, a new approach to DTC of induction motor drive is presented. The space vector modulation technique (SVM) is applied to inverter control in the proposed DTC-based induction motor drive system, thereby dramatically reducing the torque ripple. It calculates for each switching time, the stator voltage needed to track the references of stator flux amplitude and motor torque, and applies the voltage to the motor by means of the SVM technique. The proposed scheme is described clearly and simulation results are reported to demonstrate its effectiveness. The entire control scheme is implemented with Matlab/Simulink.
