The authors propose a new boundary protection scheme to trip immediately without relying on communication channel. This scheme is based on wavelet transform algorithm. Simulation results show that any type of internal fault, even with high earth-resistance and voltage of zero, can be correctly identified from directly grounded external ones with its voltage maximum using the proposed algorithm. In addition to reliability, this scheme has satisfying sensitivity. Furthermore, this algorithm can be easily realized in the real-time process with high-performance hardware.
