Research on the Software-Defined Radio (SDR)-Radiosonde Receiver

Abstract

The software-defined radio (SDR) is an advanced technology widely applied to wireless communications. The principal idea of SDR is to identify or analyze various modulated signals with the aid of software on a simple hardware platform. In the current study, we aim to introduce a principle and methodology to design the radiosonde receiver by using the SDR technology. In brief, our SDR-radiosonde receiver was designed and built by the following steps: (1) The digital signal processor (DSP) module was constructed and functions as the core part of intermediate frequency (IF); (2) The scheme of sounding signal demodulation was established and stepped into forward; (3) The FIR (Finite Impulse Response) low-pass digital filter was added into digital down converter (DDC) ; and (4) The Matlab simulation of base-band signal demodulation was added to complete the entire device in the end. In conclusion, we have demonstrated that our SDR-radiosonde receiver functions much better than the current existing ones in the market in terms of flexibility, practicability and expansibility. It is convenient, less-cost on the system updating, and efficient on multiple systems communication at the same time.
