Application and Evaluation of RUSLE Erosion Model in JAJROOD Watershed (ROODAK) with G.I.S

Abstract

In this study amount of soil erosion in watershed of JAJROOD is estimated by use of the RULSE model with the help of GIS12 . JAJROOD River is located in upstream of LATIAN Dam and is one of the most important water sources of Tehran. Also, this River has a big role in preventing the flood. modeling Results show that the amount of soil erosion is high due to high slope of the land, lack of plant coverage and the quality of soil and changing the land application, lead to increase in erosion potential. modeling Results have estimated the amount of erosion in this basin about 1,524,511 tons in a year. In order to evaluate Results and efficiency of the model, all of obtained results are compared with the measured values of sediment in input station of the Dam. Comparison between the amount of sediment in this method and the amount of load of measured sediment show that the accuracy of model results in the ROODAK station (input station of JAJROOD) was about 87%. Also by considering the potential of the lands application and proper usage of plant covering, the amount of erosion in this area was modeled and the amount of decreases in erosion was estimated. Comparing these results with the present situation of the lands shows 54% reduction in the basin of Roodak. This research shows that by using the proper coverage in the basin, the amount of soil erosion due to rainfall, is reduced considerably
