Abstract

In recent years, by enhancing the importance of wind energy sources, the significance of the wind turbine placement has also been increased. This study presents a new methodology for the optimal placement of the wind turbines to obtain optimal efficiency. The paper introduces an improved version of the fluid search optimization algorithm as a newly introduced swarm-based optimization algorithm to provide an optimal solution for the wind turbine placement problem in a wind farm. A 10 × 10 grid is employed as the case study for the wind turbine placement problem. Nine different transfer functions have been testified for mapping the algorithm into binary search space based on the algorithm in the placement problem. Simulations have been compared with different popular algorithms in the literature and show better results than the others.
