Abstract

In this work, we address the load frequency control issue caused by a varying load demand in an interconnected power system. A frequency control method is proposed by integrating Photovoltaic System (PV) and a battery energy storage system (BES) in a sample two area thermal power system. A linear incremental model for PV is developed and used for simulation studies. A MATLAB simulation of the system has been carried out and the simulation results shows that the frequency fluctuations following a step load perturbation can be effectively contained with PV-BESS combination.
