Evaluation of Robust Complex AR Analysis on MPEG-4 ALS for Noisy Speech

Abstract

ISO/IEC MPEG-4 Audio Lossless coding (ALS) was stan dardized in 2005. In the ALS, lossless compression is realized by entropy coding for LPC residual estimated by LPC inverse ļ¬ltering for input speech. The ALS is available not only for audio coding but also for speech coding. In this study, the performance is evaluated for speech corrupted by additive noise using robust complex AR analysis for analytic signal instead of LPC analysis. Complex AR anal ysis provides two features; more accurate spectral estimation in low frequencies and more accurate spectral estimation for additive noise. The evaluation with compression rate is carried out by using four kinds of speech analysis; real/complex-valued and MMSE/robust ELS-based analysis.
