A global motion predictor is used to improve the performance of block-based motion estimation for video coding for video scenes with fast camera motions. A fast global motion estimation algorithm is developed based on a simplified global motion model. Experiment shows up to 30% bit rate reduction comparing to the JVT reference software encoder with full motion search algorithm. The relative computation overhead introduced by the fast global motion estimation at the encoder is negligible.
